The price of memory chips fell by 4% in June 2020 and the market is not expected to improve during July, despite initial hopes for a rebound, reports SemiMedia.
The price fall “is completely contrary to expectations at the beginning of the year” they report. “In 2019, the price of memory chips has been on a downward trend until the end of last year. At that time, the industry believed that the memory chip market would rebound in 2020, especially the market opportunities brought by 5G, will become an important factor for the memory chip market to return to prosperity.”
However, judging from the performance in the first half of 2020, the memory chip market not only did not rebound, but continued to fall in price.
According to SemiMedia, the price of 4Gb DDR4 memory chips was below $2 as of mid-June, creating a new low since January 2020.
